A certificate II course in automotive air conditioning technology in Victoria will be free under the Victorian Government's budget announcement today.
The Government is making a number of TAFE courses free under a $172-million plan to get more Victorians trained. The courses have been identified - in part - due to skills shortages in the industries they feed into.
The free courses — including accounting, agriculture, automotive, construction, plumbing, engineering, nursing and disability — will be reviewed each year to ensure they cater to community demand.
The budget also includes $50m for Head Start Apprenticeships and Traineeships program for 1700 students, where young tradies will have the opportunity to add an extra year to their schooling to graduate fully qualified and with their VCE.
